Are you ready for Impact Weighted Accounting? This will, quicker than you think, sit alongside Financial Accounting as a measure of your company’s worth and its future risk profile. Sir Ronald Cohen’s book “IMPACT” is a great primer that every CEO and business leader should read to understand that all the current buzz words such as…sustainability, ESG, B Corp, PPP and similar boil down to the measurement of YOUR IMPACT, positive or negative.
Do you know what your ESG impact is on your customers, suppliers, people, community and planet? Do you know how to measure it and how to improve it? My experience shows that most SMEs are not engaging with this, even though they are already doing better than they think…when they know where to look.
I write this as a seasoned SME CEO and business decision-maker, not as an activist or a ratings agency. From behind the desk of the business leader, I believe that we can either engage fully with ESG and drive profits, attract and retain the best talent, enhance our brand and more…or we can wait until it impacts us (which it will) and then play catch up. Neither decision is right or wrong, they are simply choices we have. However, I urge you to find out about the options you have, so that you can make the choice that is right for you, and do it soon.
